Like every other design detail to be seen in Rebel Moon, the wardrobe of the royal family is meant to tell a storry and is rich in visual century New Look of the late forties to the early fifties - sculptural, hard, sharp. Then we took it down and sanded seams and gave it a little bit of sun fading and theadbare. So, it's all of these really regal, dramatic shapes, but if you look closer, it's fraying a little bit. With the King, we went further back in terms of our frame of reference period, more like 1900 through 1920. The shapes of his jacket were similar to the shapes of the uniforms of the Motherworld officers, but of course were made out of different fabrics. We added ' embroidery' , which was actually three-dimentional silk screening with foil on top of it, so it would look like military gold bullion embroidery. All of the decorations on it were our motifs that we created as part of the filigree on the armor, so it all runs with that same aesthetic language. We looked a lot at Nicholas II, the last Romanov Tsar of Russia. Just over the top with the embellishments and the regalia and the gold, from that past period of Imperial Russia, before the Bolsheviks."
